Costume Designer Karol Cooper has expanded her creative designs from the theatrical stage to the “Couture Pup”. It began out of a need from her her niece who couldn’t find the “perfect dress” for her soon-to-be 1 year old Yorkie. Having collected many fabrics cover the years she sprung into action; designed and sewed a one-of-a-kind couture dog dress. She was delighted AND it was well received.
Karol enjoyed the process so much she and expanded her designs to fit all the “needs” of her niece’s dog “social schedule.” Football games – dress needed. Resort vacations – dress needed. Halloween costume – Dress needed. You get the picture!
When she sees fabrics she envisions it as a finished design. Silks are one of her favorite fabric(s) to use coupled with her love of Swarovski crystal rhinestone embellishments often finish the designs.
Originally Karol only designed clothing for her own dog to wear to the Opening Night Galas for the shows she designed for Valley Youth Theatre. As the Resident Costume Designer for Valley Youth Theatre, she has designed over 68 shows over the past 25 years. She has received numerous design awards for her body of work.
Designing for the “Couture Pup” has been a wonderful expansion of her creative talents allowing her to create one dress at a time, a dream come true. Being a devoted dog lover herself she understands the mindset of the consumer who is looking for something special for their little fur baby.
That’s where or “wear” Gidget comes in. Gidget began using little Gidget as her model as the dog couture line grew. Karol’s love for Gidget and fashion was a matched made in designer heaven. Gidget, the Yorkie recieved a clothing line in her honor, became a model, brand AmbassaDog, Instagram star and has been spreading fashion LOVE everywhere those little legs will take her or her parents will carry her.
